Codesigned with future residents

Still Green has been shaped by its future residents. The cohousing group has worked closely with TOWN and the design team to develop the layout, the shared facilities that will be in the community and the long-term governance arrangements. Once complete, the community will be managed collaboratively by the residents.

“We see cohousing as a great way to live as we grow older. We are planning to create a secure and supportive environment for the second half of life where we can be active and engaged with others when we want to and have peace and quiet in our own home when we don’t.”.

The common house

The common house is the heart of the community. As well as opening onto the courtyard, it faces the high street and is directly accessible from it, creating an active frontage and a clear connection to the wider town.

Inside, it includes a large open-plan lounge and dining space with an adjacent kitchen, designed to support shared meals in the community. There are also two multipurpose rooms which can be used for meetings, hobbies or guest accommodation, as well as practical facilities such as shared laundry space and storage for cycles and mobility aids.

“We would like our home to be a place where we can be ourselves and accepting of each other, and where we look out for each other.”

Part of Wolverton

Still Green is not a gated retirement community. It forms part of a mixed neighbourhood of homes, shops, cafés and community spaces, allowing residents to remain connected to everyday life while benefiting from the support and sociability of cohousing.
Located in the heart of Wolverton town centre, Still Green is within easy walking distance of local shops, services and amenities, with the town’s main bus stop on Church Street just a short walk away. The wider regeneration of the town centre will bring new homes, businesses, restaurants and public spaces, helping to strengthen Wolverton’s reputation as a vibrant, creative and well-connected place to live.
